BULIMIA
Bulimia is similar to binge eating disorder, but instead of just bingeing, bulimia is followed by methods to compensate for the calories. These include fasting but are more usually purging/vomiting consumed food. This disorder can be very harmful as the acid in your stomach can burn through the lining of your esophagus and the act of purging can cause your electrolyte levels to spiral out of balance. This disorder can cause serious damage to your body and should not be taken lightly. Teeth can be worn away from this disorder, organs can be damaged, and this disorder can be potentially life threatening.
Unlike anorexia or binge eating disorder, people with bulimia can (usually) have all sorts of body types, this includes a healthy weight, being overweight, or being underweight. You cannot determine whether someone is suffering from their weight.
SYMPTOMS:
TREATMENT:
Therapy and medication may be helpful for bulimia, a professional may be able to find something co-morbid with this disorder (such as depression and anxiety) in an attempt to lessen the urge to vomit. However, usually someone with builimia should be sent to a treatment center where they can be monitored to make sure that they don't purge. The binge eating part of bulimia should also be controlled by professionals, such as a nutritionist, until the person suffering form this illness can control their eating properly. Please be very careful when taking medications with bulimia, as some can cause serious repercussions if purged out of your body.
